Constipation

Constipation is one of the most common reasons children struggle with toileting. It can show up as infrequent bowel movements, painful stools, stool accidents, or avoiding the toilet altogether.

Many children get stuck in a cycle—holding stool because it hurts, which then makes constipation worse over time.

At Cooper Core Kids, we look beyond diet alone. Constipation is often connected to how a child coordinates their abdominal muscles, pelvic floor, and body awareness.

Pediatric physical therapy can help your child:

  • Learn how to relax the pelvic floor during bowel movements

  • Reduce stool withholding patterns and fear of toileting

  • Improve coordination of the core muscles for pushing

  • Establish routines and positions that make bowel movements easier

Our approach is supportive, play-based, and focused on helping your child feel safe and successful in the bathroom.
